Yup… that is a T-bone:

Insulated and sheetrocked

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

The attic is coming along. Last week they finished the insulation and we passed our inspection.

Early in this week they finished pulling all the low voltage cables (including one cat5 jack in Zoey’s new closet).

And today they started mudding the drywall they have put up. I cannot wait to get the old kids off of our floor! jk :)

Hot sauce

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Being a parent of 3.5 I am intrigued with what is nature and what is nurture. For example: neither Zoey nor Zack like spicy food. Zoey can take some flavor, but Zack frankly prefers relatively bland food. And neither of them can take any heat. Both Carrie and I love flavorful food. And I like food as hot as it gets. So what went wrong? Why do our kids like American cheese?!
Tonight at Torerro’s Zayda surprised me completely. She took a chip and dipped it into the salsa. Kids are copy cats and Zayda is more so then any of our other kids were, so this didn’t surprise me. But then she took the chip to her lips and gazed off into space. After a pause, she reached for the salsa again. And again, and again and was quite angry if at any time she could not reach the salsa. She was dipping chicken and quesadilla and everything else she could get her hands on. At one point she made some noises that sounded like her mouth might have been on fire but she recovered quickly.
So… is it nature? Is it nurture? I have no idea :)

Attic is framed

Friday, November 30th, 2007

One week later much of the attic is already framed. It is getting much easier to visualize the final product.

I took Zack and Zoey up to check it out. They know full well that these are their new bedrooms. In fact, we spent the rest of the night arguing over who gets the “big closet”. I thought for sure the issue would be the “big room”. But it turns out the “big room” has the “little closet” and the closet is more important :). I guess this makes sense. Zack’s current closet is at least 6×8 and he plays in it all the time.

Oh well. I might have to resort to bribery.

Monsters in the attic

Monday, November 26th, 2007

On the 19th I wrote a great big check, and today I hear monsters. Or at least that is what Zack and Zoey call the workers who are finishing our attic.

With 3 kids and one on the way we ran out of bedrooms. Luckily our attic is large and has permanent stairs. We are adding two bedrooms and a bathroom. Everyone is very excited!

Zayda’s new tricks

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Tonight I saw two things in Zayda that I have never seen before. The first was fear. Fear of a 5’6″ bird :). We went to Red Robin for dinner and she did not like the large Red bird!

When we got home she did something else I have never seen. She took her first steps. Without prompting, she let go and walked. One step, two times. I am pretty sure she could do more but I am scared enough of a crawling Zayda. A walking Zayda terrifies me :)

Zayda’s first birthday

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Today we celebrated Zayda’s first birthday. I am sure she had no clue that today was her birthday, but as luck would have it she was in a cheerful mood all day :)

Carrie made two very nice looking (and good tasting!) cakes. They were shaped like pumpkins. Unlike our other Z’s first birthdays, Zayda knew immediately what to do with the cake when we put it in front of her! She dug right in and didn’t stop until we finally cleaned up her mess.

On the day of their first birthdays: Zack, Zoey, and now Zayda have had there pictures taken at the same spot, holding on to the same table for dear life. Expect to see the pictures posted soon!

Photo deluge

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

It is not as if I have lost my camera, I have just lost the time to post the pictures to the web :). Between traveling to Armenia and trying to help raise 3 kids I didn’t post any of my photos for over a month! But I have now purged my backlog, go check them out!

Look who is crawling!

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

So the “easy” days are over… Zayda is mobile. Ah the days when I could just plop her in a spot and I knew she would not, could not move. She also has started pulling up on things so have to re-baby-proof 1-2 more feet off of the ground :).

Rubberbands and stuffed snakes

Friday, August 31st, 2007

It is amazing to watch how children’s minds work. Somehow Zack found out about snakes that are born with two heads. This has been his fixation lately. As with all things that interest Zack, he really wants to catch one!
But two headed snakes are hard to come by in the wild… So in the mean time he decided he would make his own. He took two of his many stuffed snakes and wrapped them together with rubber bands (his idea!). This was a great hit so he pulled out the rest of his stuffed snakes and for the rest of the night he bound them with rubber bands to form two-headed snakes :)
